Frequently Asked Questions
Yes and no. We work with a freemium model, which means that we have both free and premium (paid) accounts. For now and until our beta test period ends, every account will be free. We plan on releasing premium (paid) accounts around the third quarter of 2011.
Paid plans will be defined at different levels, depending on the number of students, teachers, simultaneous active courses, storage limitations, analytics reports and other features that small, medium and large educational institutions usually require.
What happens when you start charging?
If you already have a free account with class.io by the time we release the premium (paid) accounts you will have the option to stay on the free plan or upgrade to the paid plan that best suits your needs.
If you remain with a free account we will not close your courses or remove previous data, however we might limit the number of courses you can create and set a quota for file uploads (depending how we end up defining the free and paid plans).
How do I upload to Google Docs?
The only requirement to be able to upload files to Google Docs is to login to class.io using a Google Account.
- As a teacher: on the main message box, click on the Google Docs icon
- As a student: you can turn in a homework from a file stored on your Google Docs. To do this, just click on the Homework tab, then on the “turn in homework” button of the homework you want to turn in. The homework turn in section will appear and there you can click on the “Upload From Google Docs” link.
At the moment we don’t have an institution specific section where to manage teachers, courses or students. However, we have been working on these tools and will be releasing them as part of the premium features.
In the meantime, institutions that use Google Apps for Education can manage their teachers and student accounts from the Google Apps Domain administration page. This would provide the institution with basic account management features over its users (activate and deactivate access to class.io of example).
If you manage an educational institution or a group of teachers and want to suggest some ideas about what the “institution management interface” should have, please contact us. We will be very happy to hear about your specific needs.
Is class.io affiliated with Google?
Class.io is not affiliated with Google, however we are using their API to integrate functionalities like Google Account login, Google Calendar scheduled events synchronization and file sharing & preview through Google Docs.
